The Lost Present

Let us assume that time travel is possible, and let's forget the "how" for now, since I'm no genius and I don't have the scientific knowledge to discuss How is time travel possible, As far as I know it, it isn't.

So let's pretend that we can go to anywhere in time. Imagine a world where time machines are sold as if they were cell phones, where we could see our own birth, or our death. In this world everyone would have a time machine, kinda like laptops, cars, tv, and so on. Are you imagining that? A world where people would never be late because you would be able to go back in time and be in time for your meeting. You could work in the year 2129, and still have dinner in 2034.

Now, what I love to do is discuss the consequences about time travel, and believe me, you could talk about it for hours because almost every point of view is possible. So, imagine that world, where people always travel through time in their daily lives. Is it possible to believe that by travelling so many times, and lets not forget that everybody from different times would do it, we would loose touch with the real Present? Wouldn't the Present be like a lost car keys or something? " Now way man! You never forget when you born!" Ah, yes, but you could be born in the past when your mother wasn't even born, right?

I know that this is a little confusing, and with my English is a little bit hard to explain, all that you have to know is that in that world everyone interacts with different times in their daily routines, so its possible that the point of time know as the present would be lost, becoming some sort of theme for a Sci-Fi story where the hero would be searching for The Present. You gotta admit, if you understand what I am writing, that this "theory" is interesting, because we dream about Travelling, and in that world they dream about the present.

I don't know if there are books or films that talk about this consequence of time travelling, but this theory occurred to me with no background what so ever, I never read or see any movie that would talk about this particular theory, maybe those stories exist, since I find it impossible to come up with some original ideas, but, if this theory was never discussed or thought, I gotta say that makes pretty damn happy.

Ok, I gotta admit that this theory has some flaws, maybe people could track down the present by travelling to when the time machine was made... No.. come on! It would be impossible, we would travel to when the time machine was made and then what? that would be part of the past, right?

"There's no present. There's only the immediate future and the recent past." – George Carlin.

Another thing that I should mention: the present that I am referring to is the "now" as a duration, kinda like 2010 is the present, I kinda agree with a quote above, but that's another theory.

The good thing is that we already had the "time travel talk" some time ago. So i won't have to read this. Well may i will but if i get bored with it I'll wish to go back in time.....
